Following its absence from this year's CinemaCon, the highly anticipated biopic of the late King of Pop, 'Michael,' is rumored to be released as two separate films following reports of rewrite and reshoots.

AceShowbiz - The upcoming Michael Jackson biopic, titled "Michael," directed by Antoine Fuqua, is facing major changes. Originally set for release on October 3, the film might now be split into two separate movies due to the sheer volume and complexity of its content.

This potential change could also lead to the release date being pushed up by distributor Lionsgate and Universal Pictures International, as reported by Deadline.

The film had a significant presence at last year's Lionsgate CinemaCon presentation, but curiously, no footage was shown during this year's event, adding fuel to the possible delay and significant changes.

Produced by Graham King, known for his work on "Bohemian Rhapsody," and penned by three-time Oscar nominee John Logan, the biopic wrapped up its principal photography in May 2024. However, Logan's script is currently undergoing revisions ahead of planned reshoots.

Early this year, report suggested the project was facing a series of substantial challenges due to an unforeseen legal obstacle because of a decades-old settlement agreement.

The controversy stemmed from a 1993 legal settlement between the Jackson estate and the family of Jordan Chandler, who accused Jackson of sexual abuse. Part of the agreement prohibits the Chandlers from being mentioned or dramatized in any movie.

Unfortunately, the film's script, depicting Jackson's legal battle as a central theme, violated this clause, thus calling for urgent changes mere months before its theatrical release. The Chandler clause came to light only after principal photography had wrapped, creating a "nightmare scenario" for the filmmakers.

Jaafar Jackson, Michael Jackson's nephew, making his screen debut in the titular role. Colman Domingo and Nia Long are set to portray Michael's parents, Joe Jackson and Katherine Jackson.

Other notable cast members include Miles Teller as Jackson's attorney and advisor John Branca, Larenz Tate as Motown Records founder Berry Gordy, Laura Harrier as music executive Suzanne de Passe, and Kat Graham as the legendary Diana Ross.

As anticipation builds and details about the project unfold, "Michael" is shaping up to be a much-anticipated film that dives deep into the life, music, and lasting legacy of one of the world's most iconic entertainers. Whether released as one or two films, it promises to offer an in-depth look at the man behind the legend.
