AceShowbiz - Morgan Wallen is profiting off his abrupt departure from the "Saturday Night Live" stage by launching a new line of merchandise featuring his viral post-"SNL" phrase, "Get Me to God's Country."
This new collection includes a T-shirt and a hat available in two colors and is directly tied to the phrase he posted on Instagram shortly after his sudden walk-off from "SNL" on March 29.
While it remains unclear whether the slogan is linked to his upcoming studio album, "I'm the Problem", set to release on May 16 with 37 tracks, the phrase has certainly captured public curiosity.
Among those weighing in on the controversy was Kenan Thompson, "SNL" longest-running cast member. "I don't know what goes through people's minds when they decide to do stuff like that," he said, adding his two cents on the country crooner, "Seems like a complicated individual, I guess."
"I don't know if he understood the assignment or not, or if he was really feeling a certain kind of way," he added before humorously speculating that Wallen might have had to "go to the potty or something."
In a time where everyone generally sticks to the norm of congratulatory exchanges at the end of the live show, Wallen's abrupt leave was a distinctive departure.
Thompson noted, "We're so used to everybody just turning around and high-fiving us, everybody's saying, 'Good job, good job, good job.' So when there's a departure from that, it's like, 'hmm, I wonder what that's about?' "
Though Wallen has not publicly commented on the walk-off or the slogan's deeper meaning, it is clear that the singer took the controversy in stride while continuing to engage and intrigue his fans with his unpredictable moves.
