AceShowbiz - Tom Fletcher rushed to the A&E at The Western Eye Hospital this week after a sudden and alarming flare-up of his rare eye condition, uveitis. This autoimmune condition causes inflammation inside the eye and must be treated immediately to prevent severe complications such as vision loss and blindness.
Known as the former McFly singer and "Strictly Come Dancing" star, the 39-year-old British musician took to Instagram to update his fans, sharing a selfie that showed the left side of his face drooping due to the condition.
"Woke up feeling (and looking) like I'd been smashed in the face! This is after it had calmed down and I could see again," he wrote.
The singer has battled with uveitis multiple times before, most recently at the end of 2022, which resulted in a six-week course of steroid treatment.
In his heartfelt post, Tom expressed his gratitude toward the NHS staff and his optician who have been crucial in his treatment, "Very grateful to have a dedicated eye A&E hospital in London! It's the 2nd time I've stumbled into that place holding my eyes and they've been amazing."
He shared that his current treatment involves staying in dark rooms, wearing sunglasses, and taking eye drops regularly for the next six weeks.
Tom's journey highlights the challenges of living with a chronic condition. His candid updates offer reassurance and solidarity to others facing similar health issues, proving that even in the face of adversity, there's always a way forward.
