AceShowbiz - While gearing up for her role in the live-action adaptation of Disney's "Snow White", Rachel Zegler opened up about the invaluable support she's received from fellow female stars within the industry.
During an interview for Allure magazine, Zegler emphasized how women like Ariana Grande, Jameela Jamil, Helen Mirren, and Lucy Liu have become pillars in her career journey.
Zegler shared that Grande, who is 31 and famed for her role as Glinda in the upcoming "Wicked" film, reached out to offer her support. "She reached out to me - kind of apropos of nothing - and was like, 'If you need anything, I am here,' " Zegler recounted.
She further lauded Grande's kindness and resilience despite public scrutiny, "She is so deeply kind. She has gone through so much in the public eye, and I have always really, really admired her courage in the face of all of that."
In addition to Grande, Zegler emphasized how Jameela Jamil, star of "The Good Place", has been "like a big sister" to her, offering advice and solidarity, especially in the face of racist backlash following Disney's decision to cast a Latina actress as Snow White.
Furthermore, Helen Mirren and Lucy Liu, whom Zegler worked with in 2023's "Shazam! Fury of the Gods", have also provided steadfast support. "They have been my keepers in all of this, where I feel very held by them," acknowledged Zegler.
Breaking the age-old stereotype of female rivalry in Hollywood, Zegler firmly believes in fostering camaraderie among women in the industry.
"All I'm ever really looking for in this business is a sister and they're not always easy to find," she noted, advocating for the importance of female friendships over competition. "We're often told that other women have to be your competition and I don't subscribe to that."
For Zegler, supporting friends and colleagues is paramount - a belief amplified with the release of Snow White on March 21. "I believe in championing your friends and championing your coworkers, whether you're close with them or not," she said.
"So the second that there's any intimidation or competition, just put on 'Girl, so confusing' by Charli XCX and talk it out," Zegler advised, reinforcing her commitment to cultivating supportive female friendships.
