AceShowbiz - Teddi Mellencamp, known for her stint on "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills", got candid about her battle with multiple brain tumors on her "Two Ts in a Pod" podcast with co-host Tamra Judge.
Mellencamp's symptoms began with severe migraines, memory lapses, and uncontrollable shaking. Despite her pain, she kept moving forward, delaying medical intervention amidst personal turmoil, including a divorce from her husband of 13 years, Edwin Arroyave.
Her condition deteriorated rapidly leading up to her hospitalization in February. Describing the overwhelming moment, Mellencamp said, "I started, like, sobbing to her and I'm like, 'I need you to take me to the hospital right now. I think I'm dying. I can't see, I can't walk, I can't even get out of bed.' "
After undergoing a CT scan, doctors discovered over seven tumors on her brain. "You said to me, 'You all thought I was mental, but actually I'm on my deathbed,' " Judge recounted Mellencamp's text message. The pixie-haired star indeed thought she was dying, "I remember feeling like this is actually it."
Mellencamp underwent a craniotomy with tumor resection to remove four of the tumors. However, more were later found, including two on her lungs. These tumors are metastases of her melanoma, a diagnosis she first revealed in October 2022.
Reflecting on her initial disbelief and the severity of the situation, she shared, "The hardest part is that nobody wanted to tell me what was really happening because they were scared, and so I didn't know what was happening."
Post-surgery, Mellencamp faced an arduous recovery, marked by taking "disgusting sodium pills" which made her violently ill. She revealed on Instagram, "One day, I remember I had just thrown up, like, 85 times from the stupid salt pills."
Despite the challenges, her resilience remains unbroken. With humor and optimism, she shared, "The doctors are hopeful that immunotherapy will effectively treat them. I am feeling positive - that I will win this battle, that I got this wig (I like the short hair, just not the bald spots), and that I can remember all of Angelina's kids' names."
Mellencamp's journey is a poignant reminder of the importance of listening to one's body and seeking medical help promptly. She continues to navigate her treatment with a combination of radiation and immunotherapy, underpinned by a hopeful outlook and strong support system.
As she moves forward, she remains grateful for the laughter, support, and patience from her children, family, and friends.
