As Amazon takes creative control of the James Bond franchise, former 007 actor Pierce Brosnan admits he has mixed feeling and asks the studio to handle the franchise with 'dignity' and 'respect.'

AceShowbiz - Pierce Brosnan, the celebrated fifth James Bond, has opened up about the series' transition to Amazon MGM Studios. Following a $1 billion deal that saw longtime Bond producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli hand over creative control, there's a blend of anticipation and apprehension in the air for fans and former stars alike.

"In this world that is moving so fast now, at the speed of light, [the takeover] does come with a certain lament," Brosnan told The Telegraph, highlighting the bittersweet nature of the transfer.

Brosnan, who donned the 007 mantle in films like "GoldenEye" and "The World Is Not Enough", hinted at the courage it takes for the producers to let go, "I hope that [Amazon] handles the work and the character with dignity and imagination and respect."

One question on everyone's mind is who will succeed Daniel Craig as the next Bond. Brosnan, who initially seemed indifferent, has since expressed a preference for a British successor.

"It's a given that Craig's successor should be British," he reiterated as contenders for the new 007 agent include Irishman Cillian Murphy.

The prospect of changes extends beyond casting. There is speculation and some concern within the fan community that Amazon might create spin-offs and series, potentially diluting the iconic franchise. Comparisons have been made to Disney's handling of the "Star Wars" universe, sparking fears of a similar fate for Bond.

Despite these concerns, Brosnan also sees the opportunity for fresh blood to invigorate the series. "Everything changes, everything falls apart, and I wish them well," he remarked, acknowledging the inevitable evolution of the Bond legacy.

Interestingly, Brosnan himself has not entirely dismissed the idea of returning to the role. When asked by GQ about playing an older Bond, he admitted, "Of course, how could I not be interested?" However, he also noted the delicate nature of the transition, suggesting "it's best to let sleeping dogs lie."

As the Bond series embarks on this new chapter with Amazon at the helm, only time will tell what direction it will take. For now, it remains a period of reflection for past stars and eager anticipation for fans worldwide.
