Jesse Eisenberg reflects on the ambitious yet misguided approach he took during his 2011 stint as host of 'Saturday Night Live' - a mistake that continues to linger in his memory.

AceShowbiz - Jesse Eisenberg's 2011 experience as the host of "Saturday Night Live" (SNL) remains a significant and somewhat regretful chapter in his career. On "Today with Jenna & Friends", the 41-year-old actor delved into his memories, revealing that while the episode was well-received, his approach to the opportunity still haunts him.

"I think they said it was the best episode they ever did," Eisenberg joked, even though what sticks with him are the mistakes he'd made. "I only have bad memories because I did such a dumb thing."

"The Social Network" star revealed that his longtime ambition was to write for "SNL", a dream he held ever since he was 17 years old. "I made a packet and everything and I got an agent," he shared.

When he finally got the chance to host "SNL" a decade later, he naturally assumed he could contribute by writing sketches. What Eisenberg didn't know was that the show already had a team of writers responsible for that. "I didn't realize - I'm an idiot - and I was also just wanting to write. I've wanted to write my whole life," Eisenberg admitted.

Throughout his hosting week, Eisenberg spent time slipping scripts to different cast members, unaware that this wasn't the correct protocol. Reflecting on his actions, he recalled, "I didn't realize that was not the way you do that." When asked if any of his sketches made it on air, Eisenberg confessed, "It was so unbelievably inappropriate and offensive of me that, no."

Former "SNL" cast member and guest host Amy Poehler noted that Eisenberg had perhaps "worked too hard." Eisenberg humorously pointed out, "Not according to the people who wrote the show! They wished I went the other way."

Eisenberg joked that he was sabotaged as he humorously recalled the cast's misleading reaction as they tried to let him down gently, "I was assured, 'Yes, of course. That sounds great,' they said." Despite the missteps, his episode was considered well-done, albeit he couldn't shake off his regrets.

On a lighter note, Eisenberg shared a positive outcome from the experience - his ongoing friendship with musical guest Nicki Minaj. "We text," he said. "She sometimes asks me to introduce her [at concerts], as you're supposed to as a host."

While Eisenberg's "SNL" hosting experience was marred by his mistakes, it led to memorable connections and lessons in humility. Young aspiring writers could take a note from his story: sometimes, overenthusiasm needs to be tempered with an understanding of the rules in established settings.
