AceShowbiz - Live Nation Productions has announced "New Years Rev", a comedy movie inspired by the real-life adventures of the esteemed punk band Green Day. Writer-director Lee Kirk is at the helm of this feature, which is currently shooting in Oklahoma.
"New Years Rev" takes viewers back to the early days of Green Day, specifically the period when the band lived out of a van while chasing their dreams. This period predates the success of their 1994 Grammy-winning major label debut album, "Dookie", which has been certified as double-diamond.
The film's storyline follows three friends - played by Mason Thames ("The Black Phone"), Kylr Coffman, and Ryan Foust - who embark on a mischievous and adventure-filled road trip to Los Angeles. They're mistakenly under the impression that their fledgling band has been booked to open for Green Day on New Year's Eve.
Rounding out the cast are "The Office" favorites Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey, along with Ignacio Diaz-Silverio and Keen Ruffalo.
Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong vividly recalls the band's early days, stating, "Van days rule. You will drive all night on no sleep, then play a show for 10 kids in a basement of a friend of a friend's house 50 miles east of anywhere you've ever heard of."
"But you'll do it again the next day, and the one after that. Because you're doing it with your bandmates who become your family, and it's unlike anything you've ever known. It's electric. Let the music and mischief ensue."
Adding his thoughts, Live Nation Productions head of film and TV Ryan Kroft commented, "With incredible guidance from Green Day, New Years Rev tells the story of young artists chasing a dream - long nights, endless miles, and the electrifying rush of the stage fueling their journey. Brought to life by an incredible cast, it's a tribute to the magic of live music."
Serving as producers for "New Years Rev" are Green Day members Armstrong, Mike Dirnt, and Tre Cool, alongside Tim Perell for Process and Stella Bulochnikov for Pat Solitano Productions. Executive producers include Kroft, Michael Rapino, and Jonathan Daniel.
Excitement continues to build around this film, which promises to encapsulate the youthful exuberance and raw passion of punk rock. If you're a fan of Green Day or simply relish coming-of-age tales filled with music and adventure, "New Years Rev" is one road trip you won't want to miss.
