AceShowbiz - Abel Tesfaye, known worldwide as The Weeknd, ventures into the realm of cinema with his first leading role in the feature-length film "Hurry Up Tomorrow." The movie, released alongside an album of the same name, follows the enigmatic musician on a journey of self-discovery and existential turmoil.
The official trailer paints a captivating and unsettling picture. Tesfaye plays an insomniac musician who, after meeting a mysterious stranger, descends into an odyssey that challenges his very being.
Oscar-nominated director Trey Edward Shults, known for "Waves" and "It Comes at Night", helms the film from a screenplay he co-wrote with Tesfaye and Reza Fahim. Jenna Ortega and Barry Keoghan star in supporting roles.
While "Hurry Up Tomorrow" marks Tesfaye's first lead role on the big screen, he is no stranger to acting. The Canadian-born artist has appeared in "Uncut Gems" and the HBO series "The Idol." He also got an Oscar nomination for the original song "Earned It" from "Fifty Shades of Grey".
Director Shults, 36, praised Tesfaye's acting chops during an interview with Variety, "I was blown away by how well he responds to direction as an actor. There would be days where I was ready to walk away from a scene, thinking we got it, and he would ask for another take and push the scene to a new level."
"Hurry Up Tomorrow" the album was released on January 31 and is said to be the singer's last under his moniker The Weeknd while the accompanying movie is due May 16.
