Oscar nominee Karla Sofia Gascon is facing a new wave of backlash after people discovered an old tweet where she made scathing comments about her own co-star.

AceShowbiz - Controversy surrounding Oscar nominee Karla Sofia Gascon showed no sign of slowing down as people continued to dig up past posts from her deactivated Twitter account. One particularly inflammatory tweet, unearthed by online sleuths, took aim at her own co-star Selena Gomez.
In a now-deleted 2022 tweet, Gascon who shared screen with Gomez in critically-acclaimed "Emilia Perez" harshly criticized the "Only Murders in the Building" actress, leaving a scathing comment on a photo of Gomez with Hailey Bieber, Justin Bieber's wife.
"She's a rich rat who plays the poor bastard whenever she can and will never stop bothering her ex-boyfriend and his wife," Gascon wrote the shocking message in a screenshot obtained by Latin Times.
The drama intensified as it's discovered that months before making disparaging comments about Gomez, Gascon actually posted "Emilia Perez" casting news that mentioned her name along with Gomez and Zoe Saldana as potential co-stars.
The Oscar buzz surrounding Karla SofÃa Gascón, the first transgender actress nominated for Best Actress, took an unexpected turn because of her past social media posts that included xenophobic messages, derogatory comments about Islam, criticism of the George Floyd protests, and mocking remarks about the diversity of the 2021 Oscars.
She also took a dig at another Hollywood A-lister Adele. "COVID passed, and she went overboard with the sleeves, or she went under the knife and they didn't remove the skin from her arms @Adele," she wrote while sharing a picture of Adele post-weight loss.
Gascon has since issued an apology, stating, "I am deeply sorry to those I have caused pain. All my life I have fought for a better world." She followed it up with announcement to take a step back from social media, citing online harassment and death threats.
Fellow Oscar nominee and co-star Zoe Saldana was saddened by the whole situation, "It saddens me because I don't support [it], and I don't have any tolerance for any negative rhetoric towards people of any group."
As the Academy Awards are coming closer, backlash against Karla Sofia Gascon intensifies with calls for the Oscars to cancel her nomination. For now, the actress has deactivated her Twitter account and disabled comments on Instagram.
