AceShowbiz - Award-winning director James Mangold is going to make his debut in the galaxy far far way with a " Star Wars" prequel film. The filmmaker is set to co-write and direct "Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi", and he recently shared his vision for the movie.

Aiming to create something original, Mangold and co-writer Beau Willimon plan to explore the origins of The Force without heavily relying on established lore. "The freedom to make something new is paramount to me," Mangold stated.

Set a staggering 25,000 years prior to any known "Star Wars" film, "Dawn of the Jedi" will take viewers into uncharted territory. Mangold has expressed his enthusiasm for delving into a period that fascinated him as a teenager, without the constraints of established narratives.

"I'm not that interested in being handcuffed by so much lore at this point," he said.

The prequel is based on the 2012 comic book series of the same name, which delves into the creation of the Jedi Order. An official release date for the film has yet to be announced.

Mangold's track record as an acclaimed filmmaker has fans hopeful that he can reinvigorate the 'Star Wars' franchise. His previous work includes critically-lauded films such as "Walk the Line", "Logan", and "Ford v Ferrari".

His latest work, a Bob Dylan biopic "A Complete Unknown" starring Timothee Chalamet and Elle Fanning, received multiple nominations at the Golden Globe Awards and other prestigious awards.
