AceShowbiz - Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have voiced their concerns and offered support as wildfires devastate Southern California. The couple, who reside in Montecito, California, about 90 miles from Los Angeles, could also face potential risks from the fires, including evacuation and power outages.
In a statement on their official website, the Duke and Duchess highlighted the immense scale of the tragedy, which has destroyed homes, schools, medical centers, and more.
"In the last few days, wildfires in Southern California have raged through neighborhoods and devastated families, homes, schools, medical care centers, and so much more - affecting tens of thousands from all walks of life. A state of emergency has been issued," reads their statement.
The pair provided a list of organizations where people could donate to help those impacted by the fires. Among these are Chef José Andrés' World Central Kitchen, CAL FIRE, the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation, Animal Wellness Foundation, and Compton Cowboys, which care for animals affected by the disaster.
Beyond financial donations, Meghan and Harry encouraged individuals to open their homes to friends, loved ones, and pets who may need a safe haven. They also urged checking in on disabled or elderly neighbors to ensure they have the necessary support to evacuate if needed.
"If a friend, loved one, or pet has to evacuate and you are able to offer them a safe haven in your home, please do. And be sure to check in with any disabled or elderly neighbors to see if they need help evacuating," they wrote.
The statement also emphasized the need for donations of clothing, children's toys, and other essentials, noting that many families have been left with nothing. The American Red Cross is already on the ground assisting those in need.
As the fires continue to rage on, the Palisades Fire has become one of the most destructive in Los Angeles history, burning over 17,000 acres and causing massive evacuations. Celebrities like Billy Crystal, Anthony Hopkins, Anna Faris, Eugene Levy, and Paris Hilton have lost homes or been forced to evacuate.
In these trying times, Meghan, Harry, and other public figures are stepping up to lead by example, urging the public to come together and support their communities. As Meghan poignantly stated, "Some families and people have been left with nothing. Please consider donating clothing, children’s toys & clothing, and other essentials."
Their heartfelt plea showcases a sense of solidarity and hope, inspiring action to rebuild and support those affected by this natural disaster.
