AceShowbiz - "Dexter" actress Courtney Ford, 46, officially filed for divorce from her husband, "Superman Returns" actor Brandon Routh, on January 8. Citing "irreconcilable differences," Ford submitted the paperwork without listing a specific date of separation. Their marriage, which began in November 2007, spanned over 17 years.
In her divorce filing , Ford seeks joint legal and physical custody of their 12-year-old son, Leo James while also requesting spousal support from Routh, 45, and asking the court to deny him any spousal support.
Throughout their relationship, Ford and Routh not only shared personal moments but also professional ones. The couple is well-known for their roles on "DC's Legends of Tomorrow", where their characters, Ray Palmer/Atom and Nora Darhk, evolved together on screen.
The couple left the series in its fifth season, but it was not by choice. "Neither of us decided to go," Routh revealed to TV Insider. "It was [showrunner] Phil Klemmer who decided that it was time for us to go."
The unexpected departure was a significant shock to both the actors and their fans. Routh admitted in an interview that the decision was unexpected and not communicated well, making it a challenging experience for him. During their tenure on the show, fans witnessed the characters' marriage and decision to leave the Waverider, mirroring Routh and Ford's real-life journey.
Brandon Routh first gained widespread recognition as Superman in the 2006 film Superman Returns. He later reprised the Man of Steel role during the Arrowverse's "[Crisis on Infinite Earths" event, donning the iconic costume once again. On the other hand, Courtney Ford has built an impressive portfolio with acting credits in popular TV series like "Dexter", "True Blood", "Parenthood", and "Supernatural".
Following the end of their marital relationship, neither Ford nor Routh has publicly addressed their divorce beyond the legal documents. Their split marks the closing of a significant chapter in both their lives, but it also opens the door for new beginnings, personally and professionally.
