While former flames Kate Beckinsale and Matt Rife are confirmed to reconnect at the party celebrating Golden Globes, a rep for the actress insists their reunion was platonic rather than romantic.

AceShowbiz - The Golden Globes always promise a night filled with glitz, glamour, and unexpected moments. This year's afterparty was no exception, especially when actor Kate Beckinsale and comedian Matt Rife, former lovers, were spotted together.

According to sources at Netflix's bash at Spago, the pair, who dated back in 2017, were seen engaging in a surprisingly affectionate manner. One witness told PageSix the scene vividly, "They were kissing and being affectionate with one another," adding that Beckinsale had her arms around Rife's neck while he held her waist.

It's a scene that some might equate more with a rekindled romance than a friendly chat. However, A rep for Beckinsale clarified to PEOPLE, "They are friendly exes and were having some funny conversations,” reinforcing that the interaction was more light-hearted than amorous.

The rep also denied rumors of kissing between the exes, "It is incorrect that they were kissing," insisting that the two were just close friends having a good time. These mixed signals have created a swirl of speculation and curiosity among fans and followers.

The backdrop to this interaction is layered with history. Beckinsale and Rife's relationship had its share of ups and downs. The couple initially met through a mutual friend and dated for about a year, after which they went their separate ways.

In 2019, Rife even made public remarks about Beckinsale's subsequent relationship with Pete Davidson, advising the comedian to "be careful" and "run." He added, "Enjoy it while you can. I hope they're both happy."

Labelling their previous relationship as "complicated," the comedian said to TMZ there was "not a chance" for them to rekindle their romance. "A lot of ups and downs, but she's moved on and I'm happy," he said

He later backtracked on his remarks and apologized, acknowledging he was being "a petty a**hole."

Despite the past and present speculations, both stars have moved on in their professional and personal lives. Beckinsale recently starred in "Canary Black" and has new projects like "Stolen Girl" and "The Patient" on the horizon. Rife is also busy with upcoming films "I Live Here Now" and "Candy Flip."

The Golden Globes afterparty was brimming with celebrities and memorable moments. Beckinsale was seen mingling with her "Click" co-star Adam Sandler and other big names. She also attended Jas Mathur and Michael Braun's afterparty at Chateau Marmont, where she was photographed with Harry Goodwins and Paris Jackson.

Rife, on the other hand, was seen reconnecting with show host Nikki Glaser at the official afterparty at Circa 55. Amid all the activities and sightings, it's clear that Beckinsale and Rife are maintaining a friendly rapport, whatever their past may be.

As the night came to a close and the celebrity sightings dwindled, one thing remained certain - Hollywood's favorite stars never fail to keep audiences guessing and entertained.
