Beyonce Knowles is finally granted permission by court to legally protect her daughter Blue Ivy's name following more than a decade of battle that started back in 2012 after the girl was born.

AceShowbiz - After more than a decade of legal hurdles, Beyonce Knowles has secured the exclusive rights to trademark her daughter Blue Ivy's name. This victory enables Beyoncé and Jay-Z to safeguard their daughter's name from unauthorized commercial use.

The legal journey began in 2012 when Beyoncé and Jay-Z filed for the trademark shortly after Blue Ivy's birth. They aimed to prevent others from profiting off their daughter's name. However, wedding planner Veronica Morales, who had been operating under "Blue Ivy Events" since 2009, opposed the application.

In 2020, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office dismissed Morales' objections, ruling that the names were distinct enough. Despite this win, Beyoncé's legal team did not follow through, and the application was eventually abandoned.

Beyoncé reapplied in November 2023 but faced another challenge when an examiner initially ruled the trademark could be confused with a Wisconsin clothing store's "Blue Ivy" logo. After the store did not oppose the filing, the trademark was approved for publication in The Trademark Official Gazette on December 31, 2024.

The Carter family's concern over unauthorized commercial use of Blue Ivy's name dates back to 2013. "People wanted to make products based on our child's name, and you don't want anybody trying to benefit off your baby's name," Jay-Z explained to Vanity Fair. Now, their hard-fought legal journey ensures that Blue Ivy's name is legally protected.

This trademark win not only safeguards Blue Ivy's name but also positions her for future commercial endeavors. Blue Ivy, at just 12 years old, has already made significant strides in the entertainment industry. Dubbed the "New Princess of Pop" by Rolling Stone, she features in Disney's new live-action Mufasa movie and has performed with her mom at major events.

The trademark covers a wide array of potential products and services, from toys and sporting goods to furniture and software. As highlighted by Beyoncé's legal team, "When the mark is used by Applicant to sell goods and provide services affiliated with Ms. Blue Ivy Carter, the public will rightfully perceive the mark as connected to and affiliated with her and her superstar parents, Mr. Carter and Mrs. Carter."

This legal victory is a testament to Beyoncé and Jay-Z's commitment to protecting their family's legacy while paving the way for their daughter's future successes.
