AceShowbiz - Dolly Parton shares her festive holiday traditions, indulging in family meals but preparing for a diet come January. The 78-year-old cherishes spending the holiday season surrounded by loved ones. While they indulge in feasts throughout December, Parton reveals that she's ready to rein in her overeating by the end of the period.
"We all start eating around Thanksgiving and we eat until the first of January, and that's when we all go on our diets. You know how that goes?" she told Closer magazine.
Parton goes "all-out" for Christmas celebrations with her extended family. She plays the role of "Granny Claus" or "Gigi Claus" for different generations. Parton's favorite memories include singing Christmas carols around the piano and preparing a traditional Christmas meal.
She serves turkey, ham, black-eyed peas, cornbread dressing, mashed potatoes, and coleslaw. Parton's own wine collection complements the festive spread.
Despite her holiday indulgences, Parton maintains her signature bold style. "I'm more of an eyesore than an icon in some of the stuff I wear," she says. "I like to feel confident in my clothes. Even if they weren't fashionable, even if they were gaudy or cheap or whatever. If I felt like it fit me, then I was comfortable in it. And then if I'm comfortable in myself, other people are comfortable with me."
Parton's festive cheer extends to her belief that food, wine, and fashion all enhance the holidays. "We really are big on having lots of great things for all the holidays," she says.
