AceShowbiz - Lala Kent opened up about the recent tumult surrounding her "Vanderpump Rules" costar James Kennedy following his arrest on domestic violence charges. Arrested after an altercation with an unnamed woman, Kennedy's legal troubles have quickly become a focal point of the "VPR" universe.
During an Amazon Live session on December 19, Kent was asked by a fan if she had spoken to Kennedy since the incident. She responded, "I have not," but confirmed that she had reached out to his girlfriend, Lewber. "I've spoken with Ally and I've checked in on her, and she wrote me a text back. And that's all I'm really going to share on that topic," she noted.
Kent elaborated on her stance towards other people's relationship issues, explaining that her busy life caring for her daughters, Ocean, 3, and Sosa, 3 months, limits her focus on external drama.
"You know what's wild about getting older - as you get older, you have your own life to worry about," said the 34-year-old. "When something happens in someone else's relationship, you first and foremost want to make sure like, 'Hey, how are you doing? Are you okay? I'm here if you need me.' "
She further clarified, "Beyond that, I really don't sit and think about anybody else's relationship or have many thoughts about someone else's relationship because I'm too caught up in what's going on in my own household."
Meanwhile, Kennedy acknowledged his need for personal change in a social media post on December 17. "I am committed to making meaningful changes in my life. I am taking time to focus on my sobriety, personal growth, and being present for loved ones. Navigating challenging moments is not easy, but I am determined to learn, grow, and move forward with the incredible support system around me," the 32-year-old DJ wrote.
While fans expressed concern for Lewber, she kept her statement brief but reassuring. "Thank you to everyone who has reached out with love and support and for checking in on me," she wrote on Instagram Stories on December 14. "I'm okay and taking the time I need right now. I deeply appreciate all the kindness and respect for my privacy during this time."
In light of the incident, Lewber's parents have come into town and are staying at an Airbnb to support her. The couple has taken some distance, but reports suggest that their relationship may not be over. Kennedy continues to focus on his DJ gigs and has made no changes to his professional schedule despite the upheaval.
This incident has drawn renewed attention to past claims of violence involving Kennedy. Bravo reportedly investigated allegations from a year prior, but the inquiry was inconclusive.
