AceShowbiz - Princess Michael of Kent, 79, is showing remarkable resilience as she recovers from a severe fall down the stairs that broke both of her wrists. The unfortunate incident occurred at her home in Kensington Palace, London, where she resides with her husband, Prince Michael of Kent, first cousin to the late Queen Elizabeth II.
The fall happened on December 19 while Princess Michael was carrying overcoats. Trying to break the fall with her hands, she ended up fracturing multiple small bones. Despite her injury, she attended King Charles III's pre-Christmas lunch at Buckingham Palace later that day, her wrists in splints.
"So many things that you rely on being able to do, like cleaning your teeth, are impossible," she shared with Daily Mail. "I can type with one finger on a mobile, but I can't use a laptop. I am told that, after an accident like this, if you do one wrong movement on top of the unhealed bones, you are back where you started."
The broken wrists added to the health issues faced by Princess Michael, born Baroness Marie-Christine von Reibnitz. A year ago, she underwent heart surgery, from which she is still recovering. "It shocked me. I still have to rest every afternoon," she said in an interview with Majesty Magazine.
Adding to the emotional strain, Princess Michael also spoke publicly for the first time about the tragic passing of her son-in-law, Thomas Kingston. Kingston, married to her daughter, Lady Gabriella Windsor, died by suicide in February 2024. His cause of death was a traumatic wound to the head, and a gun was found nearby. "Tom was a lovely man, so kind and thoughtful. They were very happy together," Princess Michael said.
Kingston's death has deeply affected the entire family, with Lady Gabriella moving back into Kensington Palace. "They wanted Ella to be with them, and she didn't want to be alone in the home she shared with Tom," a friend reported to Daily Mail.
While Princess Michael and her family are not working royals and do not receive public funds, they remain active in supporting various charities and attending family events.
