AceShowbiz - There's method acting, and then there's method dressing. Timothee Chalamet recently took his embodiment of Bob Dylan to a whole new level at the New York premiere of "A Complete Unknown", sparking buzz and garnering approval from none other than Dylan himself.
Friday night, December 13 was a spectacle as Chalamet arrived at the SVA Theater donning a look that paid homage to one of Dylan's most notable appearances. Sporting a leather coat, gray patterned scarf, red flannel shirt, blue beanie, and freshly blonde hair, Chalamet was bundled up in an outfit wthat was a near-exact replica of Dylan's attire from the 2003 Sundance Film Festival premiere of "Masked and Anonymous".
The dedication to detail was unmistakable. From the essence captured in his facial hair - a thin mustache Chalamet quipped about on "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" - to his blonde locks peeking out from underneath his beanie, the actor's commitment to portraying Dylan went beyond traditional boundaries.
In an interview with Rolling Stone, Chalamet commented on the authenticity of the Bob Dylan biopic, noting, "The worst thing we could've done with a Bob Dylan biopic is sanitize it, is make it sound clean. This was a man from iron ore country. You hear the coal country in his voice. I didn't want to be a New Yorker recording in Los Angeles decimating that music. I wanted to honor that legacy, this is an American hero, one of the fantastic artists of our time."
Delving into the voice behind the image, Chalamet's vocal coach Eric Vetro explained the intricate process of training the actor to sound like the music legend. "We would do normal exercises that I would give to anyone just to strengthen their voice, widen their range," Vetro shared.
"Then we would start bringing him into probably a little bit more what you would call front-nasal exercises. And then as we would continue, I'd start to try to get him to think, 'How would Bob do this exercise? If he was going to take a voice lesson, how would he do it?' "
Timothée Chalamet, who considers "A Complete Unknown" "the movie I'm absolutely the proudest of in my career," spent five years preparing for this role, facing delays due to the pandemic and industry strikes.
The anticipation for this film, co-written by James Mangold and Jay Cocks, is palpable, especially with Dylan expressing his confidence in Chalamet's portrayal. "Timmy's a brilliant actor so I'm sure he's going to be completely believable as me. Or a younger me. Or some other me," Dylan remarked on social media.
With its release slated for Christmas day, "A Complete Unknown" promises to be a profound retelling of Dylan's early career, a narrative that resonates with both history buffs and new fans alike.
