AceShowbiz - Lara Spencer, the 55-year-old "Good Morning America" co-anchor, disclosed on December 11 that she had taken a break from the show due to a painful health battle. Spencer explained that she had undergone double foot surgeries to alleviate these issues.
One of the surgeries was a revision operation to correct a previous procedure. The other surgery addressed an old college diving injury. During her senior year at Pennsylvania State University, Spencer suffered a serious diving injury that left her with shattered toes and joints. At the time, medical options were limited, but advances in medicine have allowed for better treatments.
Spencer shared that the surgery on her right foot was less invasive, as it involved removing a plate from a previous operation. The surgery on her left foot was more extensive, addressing the old diving injury.
The TV host expressed gratitude to Dr. Martin O'Malley, her foot and ankle surgeon, for the successful procedures. She shared photos on Instagram, showing her bandaged feet and the doctor.
Spencer's "GMA" colleagues sent her well wishes for a speedy recovery. Deborah Roberts, Dr. Jennifer Ashton, and Rebecca Jarvis expressed their support.
Spencer, a former competitive diver and All-American Athlete at Penn State, has experienced significant foot pain over the years. The double surgeries are expected to provide long-term relief, allowing her to continue her active lifestyle and return to "Good Morning America" in the coming weeks.
