AceShowbiz - Matty Healy came to Charli XCX's defense after Azealia Banks had some not-so-nice words about the "Brat" singer's appearance and performance. "Azealia, you seem to have a blind spot when it comes to your 'reads'. All the women you attack seem to be culturally relevant, attractive, divisive, and NICE people," the 1975 frontman, 35, wrote via X on Tuesday, December 3. "I think this makes you jealous cos you're so talented but everything else about you is a failure. Just rap bro."
Healy was responding to a comment Banks, 33, made about how Charli XCX's look has changed since her breakout year in 2014. "Charli used to be soooo pretty. Ugh," the rapper penned on Tuesday alongside a clip of Charli XCX's "Break the Rules" music video. "Boaaa, I swear them Weho gays be having the girls questioning themselves meanwhile they all scraping k off a cookie sheet, eating cold bossanova and sharing panties. Tuh."
Charli XCX has not addressed Banks' remarks publicly, but fans quickly rallied to her support. "She still is very very pretty, Miss Banks. So do you," one user retorted while another replied, "Yeah she used to be pretty but she is even more gorgeous now."
The close-knit relationship between Healy and Charli XCX is well known. Healy's band The 1975 is set to appear on the "Brat" remix album, a star-studded take on Charli XCX's 2024 album, whose moniker and aesthetic have already garnered much anticipation. Charli XCX considers Healy akin to a brother, a sentiment she expressed in an October interview with Apple Music 1's Zane Lowe, "I have an endless amount of respect for him as a songwriter and him as a person." Though jokingly, she admitted, she "sometimes" wants "to strangle him."
Healy's defense did not end there. Reacting to another critique from Banks about Charli's performance on "Saturday Night Live", where Banks accused Charli of making a "lazy" interpolation of Ciara's "1, 2 Step", Healy shot back on X, "Shut up you f**king prat," punctuated with a laughing emoji. "Being more annoying than me is actually impressive."
Relations between Healy and Banks have been rocky before. Last year, Banks lashed out at Healy after his comments about Ice Spice, accusing him of being a "lame poser with a trash clique band name." She took another jab, questioning whether he knew no one thinks The 1975 makes good music.
