AceShowbiz - Saweetie has once again gained attention with her choice of outfit. After baffling people with her ski mask during a recent tropical getaway, this time the female hip-hop star earned praises for rocking a hijab during a trip to Abu Dhabi.
On Tuesday, November 26, the 31-year-old made use of her Instagram account to share photos from her visit to Grand Mosque. As per the custom, she traded her usually skimpy outfits for modest clothes that covered her up from head to toe, except for her face and a little part above her chest.
The "Icy Girl" raptress looked regal in the white slinky outfit that had gold embroidery all over it. She added a golden head piece and had a matching bag slung over her shoulder as she posed outside and inside the mosque. In the caption, she wrote, "alhamdulilah [sic]," an Arabic phrase that translates into "thank God."
Upon seeing the pictures, many of Saweetie's followers marveled at her beauty. "You look so at peace & beautiful," someone commented on the post. Another wrote in the comments section, "Wow so beautiful!!! Stunning sis."
"She looks STUNNING," a third gushed. A fourth echoed the sentiment as saying, "Absolutely gorgeous! I love that she's embracing other cultures & showing respect," and another added, "Your modesty is perfection & I can bet any amount of money that she felt more beautiful than she's ever felt in her entire life garbed in this gorgeous attire. Alhamdulillah for everything."
Still, there were some naysayers who accused Saweetie of mocking Islam or cultural appropriation with her fashion style and caption. "so everybody muslim now?!?" one of them asked. Another penned, "Everything always has to be a mockery. How can we be naked today and fully clothed tomorrow posting to the world a religious word as if we are apart of that religion?" A third critic claimed, "I feel like yall be playing with Muslim religion & ion like dat.."
Some people quickly jumped to Saweetie's defense though, with one saying, "For those asking: it's a MUST to cover this way when visiting this beautiful mosque in Abu Dhabi! So why not dress up cute Y’all know it’s required to be covered like this in public in these places. So yall are calling her a culture vulture and she literally is respecting the culture..."
Another weighed in, "I mean maybe she just wanted to dress modest in a modest country to show respect …" Someone else wrote, "Nothing wrong with thanking god and giving praise. Even if you’re saying it in a different language!" referring to her caption.
