Patrick J. Adams, who played Michael James Ross on the legal drama, opens up about his struggles with mental health and alcohol abuse that prompted his early departure from the show.

AceShowbiz - Patrick J. Adams, who played Michael James Ross on the legal drama "Suits" for seven seasons, recently revealed that personal struggles led to his departure at the end of season 7.

In an interview with Jesse Tyler Ferguson on "Dinner's on Me", Adams shared, "I wasn't taking good care of my mental health, and I was drinking too much." He admitted to living a "pretty unexamined life," feeling miserable and depressed. He lacked coping mechanisms and resorted to spending and alcohol to numb himself.

The strain on his personal life became a breaking point. "It was taking a toll on my relationship and making me a very not present father," said Adams. He realized that he needed to stop drinking and prioritize his well-being.

Adams said that by the time season 8 rolled around, the only reason he considered staying was for financial reasons. After consulting with his mother, he decided against returning, as it was not the right choice for his marriage and personal growth.

Despite the difficulties he faced, Adams maintains a positive outlook on his time on "Suits". He expressed compassion for himself and acknowledged the support of the show's cast and crew.

Adams went on to share that the "Suits" franchise has experienced a resurgence in popularity on Netflix. A spin-off series, "Suits: LA", is set to premiere in February 2025, featuring Gabriel Macht reprising his role as Harvey Specter.

Adams is currently involved in several upcoming projects, including a "Yellowstone" spin-off, a BBC/Netflix limited series and a Netflix limited series.
