AceShowbiz - As Zayn Malik returned to the stage for his solo tour, he dedicated a poignant tribute to his late friend and former One Direction bandmate, Liam Payne, who tragically passed away last month. This emotional moment was the highlight of an already heart-wrenching concert experience for fans and supporters.
It marked Zayn's first concert since Liam Payne died in mid-October. The "Pillowtalk" hitmaker attended Payne's funeral just three days ago, along with the other surviving members of One Direction: Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, and Niall Horan. Celebrities including James Corden, Simon Cowell, and JLS' Marvin Humes also attended the private service held at St. Mary's Church in Amersham.
The concert marked a significant moment in Zayn's career, being his first-ever solo tour since leaving One Direction in 2015. Performing at the 02 Academy in Leeds, Zayn bravely began his "Stairway to the Sky" tour despite the raw emotions stemming from his friend's recent passing. As the event concluded with his song "Stardust", a heartfelt tribute appeared on the big screen, readin, "Liam Payne 1993-2024. Love you bro," alongside a red heart.
Fans took to social media to share their appreciation for Zayn's strength and courage during such a difficult time. "Liam was watching you from up there, the whole time. He was so proud of you, Zayn and he loved you so so much," wrote one user.
Another fan expressed, "The fact Zayn left the stage before the tribute appeared on the screen only shows how MUCH it hurts and is difficult for him to go through it. And you still say they're just bandmates. Zayn, we're proud of you. Stay strong. We love you."
Following Payne's death, an investigation has been launched, and Argentinian authorities have arrested three people in connection with the incident. They are charged with abandonment after death and the supply and facilitation of narcotics. Payne died on October 16 after falling from a third-story hotel room in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
In the wake of Payne's passing, Zayn and his former bandmates released a joint statement expressing their devastation. Zayn also shared a personal message, emphasizing the support and brotherly love he received from Payne.
"I lost a brother when you left us and can't explain to you what I'd give to just give you a hug one last time and say goodbye to you properly and tell you that I loved and respected you dearly. I will cherish all the memories I have with you in my heart forever."
This heartfelt concert not only showcased Zayn's musical talents but also his deep bond with his former bandmates, leaving fans both somber and appreciative. The "Stairway to the Sky" tour will continue in January after being rescheduled following the heartbreaking news.
