AceShowbiz - Idris Elba has been added to the cast of the forthcoming live-action "Masters of the Universe" movie, bringing the classic Mattel property to the big screen. Elba will play Duncan, the royal weapons expert also known as Man-at-Arms.
The ensemble cast includes Nicholas Galitzine as He-Man, Camila Mendes as Teela, and Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn. Travis Knight ("Bumblebee") will direct the film, which is scheduled for release on June 5, 2026.
In the "Masters of the Universe" franchise, Duncan is a veteran warrior and mentor to He-Man's alter ego, Prince Adam. He has appeared in numerous animated series and was portrayed by Jon Cypher in the 1987 live-action movie.
Duncan's character plays a significant role in the film's mythology. As a personal choice of King Randor, he leads an elite fighting force called The Masters of the Universe. Along with his adopted daughter Teela, Duncan defends Eternia against invading threats.
Elba's casting adds to his impressive filmography, which includes major franchise roles in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (Heimdall), DC Extended Universe (Bloodsport), "The Fast and the Furious" (Brixton), "Star Trek" (Krall), "Alien" (Janek), "Sonic the Hedgehog" (Knuckles), and "Extraction" (Alcott).
He has also lent his voice to Pixar ("Finding Dory"), Walt Disney Animation Studios ("Zootopia"), and a live-action remake of a Disney cartoon ("The Jungle Book") in the same year.
Elba's next projects include the second season of "Hijack", "Sonic the Hedgehog 3", Kathryn Bigelow's untitled White House thriller, and "Heads of State".
