The event, hosted by Rita Ora, celebrated its 30th anniversary and featured performances by Benson Boone, Le Sserafim, Teddy Swims, Tyla and others. Mendes was scheduled to showcase his latest single, "Heart of Gold", along with rehearsal snippets.

In a personal revelation, Mendes shared through his song "Why Why Why" the experience of a pregnancy scare and its impact on his mental health. The singer initially hesitated to incorporate the experience into a song but later realized its potential to connect with listeners and break down barriers.

Despite Taylor Swift's lead in nominations with seven, she was absent from the event due to her support for her boyfriend at an Arrowhead Stadium game. Busta Rhymes received the Global Icon Award for his influence in rap music.

The evening also honored the late Liam Payne, who passed away tragically in Argentina. Presenters included Aaron Taylor Johnson, Gavin Rossdale and Jodie Turner-Smith.
