AceShowbiz - Jon M. Chu, the director of the highly anticipated film "Wicked," debuted his fifth child, a baby girl, who was born on November 9. The arrival of his daughter coincided with the Los Angeles premiere of his movie starring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo.
Chu posted a video on his Instagram Stories of his newborn daughter asleep on her mother Kristen Hodge's chest in the hospital. In the video, the baby girl clutched Hodge's finger and appeared to yawn. Danny Wright's rendition of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" played in the background.
The filmmaker skipped the premiere at the last minute to be with his wife in the hospital. During the L.A. premiere, a video was shared on the movie screen showing Chu filming a speech at the hospital, explaining his absence.
"I'm so sorry I can't be there," he said. "It's November 9th. I was at the hotel across the street ready to come… I've waited for three years to have this moment to share a movie with you, but I've waited my whole life to have this moment to have a fifth child right now. Of course, this little girl knows when to show up on premiere day."
Earlier that day, Chu announced on his Instagram Stories a "change of plans" at 4:00 a.m. and that he would be missing the premiere as his wife had gone into labor. He posted a photo of a friendship bracelet that read "Defy Gravity" in a hospital room, symbolizing the movie and his daughter's arrival.
Chu and his wife are already parents to four children: Willow, Ruby, Jonathan Heights, and Iggy. With the arrival of his fifth child, Chu expressed his joy and gratitude.
