AceShowbiz - On Election Day, actress Anne Hathaway posted a video on social media, belting out an altered version of Sabrina Carpenter's song "Please Please Please". Hathaway encouraged college students in Pennsylvania, particularly at UPenn and Temple University, to stay in line despite long wait times at polling stations. She modified the lyrics to sing, "Please, please, please stay on the line... Voting is magic but also annoying. You waited this long, let's not make it boring."
Hathaway also highlighted organizations assisting young voters at polling places with food, water and support. In her post's caption, she reminded everyone that U.S. law guarantees the right to vote for anyone standing in line when polls close.
Earlier, Hathaway endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris and Tim Walz, sharing that she "voted like half the country’s lives depended on it." She joins celebrities like Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, and Lady Gaga in encouraging voter turnout.
Sabrina Carpenter, whose song Hathaway used in her video, has registered over 35,000 new voters in 2024 through partnerships with HeadCount, a nonpartisan organization that collaborates with entertainers.
Other celebrities have also shown their support for voting. Actor Paul Rudd handed out water to students waiting in line to vote in Pennsylvania, and singers Lizzo and Billie Eilish urged their followers to register to vote.
These celebrity-driven efforts align with a broader push to engage young voters, especially on college campuses. Gen Z voters are a key demographic in this election, and their votes could influence the outcomes of races in swing states.
