AceShowbiz - Bad Bunny has been a vocal critic of Puerto Rico's political and social problems. Despite his presence during the 2019 protests, his stance in this election remained uncertain. However, in September, he released "Una Velita", urging leadership change on the island.
To understand Dalmau's campaign, one must examine Puerto Rico's recent struggles: recessions, hurricanes, austerity measures, corruption, and an exodus of residents. In the 2020 elections, the Citizens Victory Movement and the Independence Party formed La Alianza, a coalition led by Dalmau.
Bad Bunny's Instagram follow of Dalmau was not initially an endorsement. However, just before Dalmau's closing rally on November 3, Benito posted cryptic messages on social media. On the day of the rally, Dalmau's accounts finally revealed Bad Bunny's name as a performer.
The rally drew 65,000 attendees, the largest of any party rally that evening. Bad Bunny's appearance was met with thunderous cheers. He shared his political awakening, acknowledging his previous support for the New Progressive Party but distancing himself from its corruption.
"My heart told me to come; my heart and my love for [Puerto Rico] brought me here," he said.
Bad Bunny spent over 30 minutes discussing his political journey, highlighting the impact of poor governance and corruption on his family. He emphasized his desire for a united and independent Puerto Rico.
"I dream of a united Puerto Rico that demands respect for itself, dammit!" he proclaimed. "I don't follow any party. My party is the people, my party is Puerto Rico."
In the closing moments of his speech, Bad Bunny formally endorsed Dalmau and La Alianza. He urged voters to "listen to your heart" and make the right decision for their island.
On Election Day, Bad Bunny cast his vote and advised undecided voters to "listen to your heart." His support for Dalmau has sparked hope among many Puerto Ricans who believe in Dalmau's vision for a transformed Puerto Rico.
