AceShowbiz - T.J. Holmes and Amy Robach struggled to complete New York City Marathon. Despite the duo eventually managing to cross the finish line together, the race was anything but smooth for the former "Good Morning America" co-hosts.
Holmes, 47, posted a candid photo on Instagram showing Robach looking exhausted while he was collapsed on the couch. "How we got from the starting line to this … on a marathon day that included a near repeat disaster, tons of Twizzlers, iPhone chafing, hanging with [New York] Gov. Hochul, and vomiting. Lots and lots of [vomiting]," he captioned the photo.
Robach, 51, also shared her thoughts on Instagram, posting more cheerful photos with their medals and a heartfelt message, "We finished! First 20 were glorious - last 6 - the toughest I've had, ever. It was a gorgeous day with so many highs and a few lows - a huge thank you to the city of New York for pulling off another incredible day, arguably the best day of the year for the city: a day of community and unity and joy."
The couple completed the marathon in 4 hours, 14 minutes, and 39 seconds.
Holmes' return to long-distance racing came just weeks after a disastrous attempt at the Chicago Marathon on October 13, where he had to leave the race in an ambulance due to severe pain and vomiting.
During their podcast, "Morning Run", Holmes revealed how he aggravatingly injured his IT band and Achilles tendon. "I began compensating by putting more weight and emphasis on the left leg, which is already injured, and that is where everything falls apart," Holmes said.
Despite the setbacks, Holmes was determined to take on the New York City marathon. "Before we even got back to the hotel [from Chicago], my thought was all about [how] I gotta get healthy for the New York City Marathon in three weeks," Holmes shared.
The couple had been preparing extensively for the NYC race, often sharing training updates on social media. Robach noted Holmes' commitment to his recovery, including daily icing, heating, specialist consultations, and a regimen of Aleve and Advil for pain management.
Holmes promised to share the full story of their NYC marathon adventure soon, teasing a narrative filled with physical and emotional battles while crossing the iconic 26.2-mile stretch through all five New York City boroughs.
