AceShowbiz - Swifties are dragging Scott Borchetta online after he posted a tribute to Taylor Swift. The Big Machine Label Group founder and CEO has come under fire for celebrating the 20th anniversary of his first meeting with the pop superstar, nearly five years after he sold her masters.
On Saturday, November 2, the record executive posted a throwback picture of the then-14-year-old singer/songwriter performing at a cafe. In the caption, he wrote, "It was 20 years ago today... a Beatles reference may not be too far off the mark..."
Scott shared, "Today marks the 20th anniversary of my first meeting with Taylor. A day that changed both of our lives. This photo was taken two nights later at the Bluebird Cafe. You see the back of my head, bottom left, T, and then Andrea across the room..."
Having nothing but praise for the Grammy Award-winning artist, he added, "Always proud of the art and the work she did while we were together… and just as proud of her now." He further voiced his support for the "Lover" singer as concluding, "Keep crushing it… xx."
Despite his seemingly heartfelt message, fans of Taylor were not having it. They responded to his Instagram post by calling out the music exec for his infamous fallout with the 34-year-old pop star after he sold her masters.
"this is so ridiculous. attention seeker behavior. fraud," one Swiftie claimed. Another remarked, "This made me sick he's so gross to keep try to make amends online and use her still to this day."
A puzzled fan asked, "He betrayed her but now wants to act like they're close?" A fourth user claimed, "This is the definition of gaslighting," while others labeled the tribute "so desperate" and "SOOO embarrassing."
An eagle-eyed fan noticed that Scooter Braun liked the post. "Scooter Braun liking the post is hilarious," the said fan responded.
Scott, through his Big Machine Label Group, was the first to sign Taylor in 2005 when she was 14 years old. She was the label's first artist and went on to become Big Machine's most successful artist.
In June 2019, Ithaca Holdings, run by Scooter, bought Big Machine Records, with Scott staying on as CEO. This transaction included the masters of Taylor's first six albums. The "My Tears Ricochet" songstress voiced her frustrations in a Tumblr post, saying she was "grossed out" after learning Scott had struck a deal with Scooter for her music catalog in the latter's acquisition of Big Machine Label Group.
The "Who's Afraid of Little Old Me?" singer claimed she had been trying to buy the masters for years and described Scooter as an "incessant, manipulative bully." Later in August of the same year, she told Vogue she was done trying to purchase her masters and decided to re-record her first six albums instead.
