AceShowbiz - Hoda Kotb has opened up about her hopes for the person who will replace her on the "Today" show after she departs in early 2025. While she acknowledges that she has no official say in the decision-making process, Kotb expressed her desire for someone who has "beautiful chemistry" with her current co-anchor, Jenna Bush Hager.
"That's all I want," Kotb told E! News. "Because it's never about either anchor, it's about what's between. So bring the chemistry."
Kotb emphasized that she doesn't care who NBC chooses, as long as they have a strong connection with Hager. She encouraged Hager to "feel who you want" and "feel what feels right for you."
"She'll know, because the only way it's going to work is if they got a vibe or not. Just the fun party vibe. It can't be forced," Kotb explained.
Kotb also shared a humorous message for her yet-to-be-named successor, acknowledging that they will inevitably be "second-fiddle" to Savannah Guthrie.
"Look, you get to sit next to Savannah Guthrie, here's what you're going to do: You're going to ride sidecar and say 'thank you very much,'" she joked.
Kotb's announcement of her departure from "Today" in September came as a surprise to many. She explained that she is ready for a new chapter in her life, which will include focusing on her family and exploring opportunities in the wellness space.
NBC has yet to announce Kotb's replacement, but several potential candidates have emerged, including Laura Jarrett of "Saturday Today".
