'Grey's Anatomy' alum Patrick Dempsey could make a thrilling comeback to the 'Scream' franchise as Detective Mark Kincaid following his last appearance in the third installment.

AceShowbiz - Patrick Dempsey might be ready to revisit the spine-chilling world of "Scream". The 58-year-old actor, widely known for his role as Detective Mark Kincaid in "Scream 3" (2000), has hinted at a return to the franchise's seventh installment.

During an appearance on the "Today" show, Dempsey revealed he's in talks to reprise his role and is eagerly awaiting the script. "There has been a conversation about it," said the "Grey's Anatomy" star. "I haven't seen anything yet, so we'll see what happens."

Dempsey debuted in the "Scream" universe as a Los Angeles detective investigating murders linked to the film within the film, "Stab 3". His character, Kincaid, forms a romantic bond with Neve Campbell's Sidney Prescott. By the end of the fifth film, it is confirmed that Kincaid and Sidney are married with three children.

In a separate conversation with People magazine, Dempsey echoed his excitement about potentially returning. "In this business, you never know what's going to happen," he stated. "But if the opportunity opens itself up and it becomes a reality, then I'll definitely take it seriously."

"Scream 7" is slated for release on February 27, 2026. Neve Campbell, who played Sidney Prescott since the franchise's inception in 1996, will reprise her role. She had stepped away from the sixth installment due to a salary dispute but confirmed her return after producers moved away from new leads Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega.

Campbell's return was bolstered by the involvement of Kevin Williamson, the creator of the original "Scream" film. Williamson will direct the upcoming movie, with Guy Busick set to write the script. Campbell expressed her enthusiasm, saying, "They did pitch the concept to me, and it's the reason that I jumped on board."

Courteney Cox, who plays Gale Weathers, has not yet officially signed on but remains optimistic about the future of the franchise. "I'm not officially signed on. I'm not, but there will be a Scream 7," she told Variety. Cox also hoped to see David Arquette's beloved character, Dewey Riley, return to the series.

As fans eagerly await the latest twists and turns in the "Scream" saga, the potential return of Patrick Dempsey's Detective Kincaid only adds to the excitement. Stay tuned as we continue to follow the developments in this much-anticipated horror flick.
