AceShowbiz - Lucas Bravo, who has captivated audiences for four seasons as the charming chef Gabriel on Netflix's "Emily in Paris," might not be part of the next season. In a recent interview with French newspaper Le Figaro, Bravo revealed his frustration with the show's direction, describing his character's romance with Emily - played by Lily Collins - as "archaic."
He commented, "Everything is based on a lack of communication. It's a bit archaic," adding that he would like Gabriel to have more "panache." He went on, "I do not want to be a part of a cog that does not tend to take the intelligence of viewers into consideration."
Bravo, who recently starred in the French film "Libre," feels increasingly constrained by his role in the series, saying he lacks "freedom." Speaking to French outlet Le Figaro, he mused, "Life is short. It takes five months to shoot this series. Do I want to sacrifice them by telling something that does not stimulate me?"
The show's portrayal of relationships is a significant point of contention for Bravo. He criticized the outdated notion of lovers constantly breaking up and making up, stating, "Today, the new generation expresses [its emotions] and confronts [them]."
This aligns with his desire for the show to evolve and be more intellectually engaging for its audience. Bravo isn't the first to critique the series. Brooklyn sports writer Greg Wyshynski and London blogger Jenny Marston have also pointed out its lack of depth and stereotypic portrayals, labeling it a "good hate watch."
Despite Bravo's reservations, "Emily in Paris" has been renewed for a fifth season. The show's creator, Darren Star, hinted at potential developments for Gabriel, suggesting he might be unwilling to let Emily go, which indicates ongoing romantic drama. According to Star, Gabriel feels "there's unfinished business" with Emily, although what that means for the future of their relationship remains uncertain.
Bravo remains ambivalent about his future with "Emily in Paris," hinting that the show's rigid structure may push him to explore other avenues. As he looks for roles that offer more creative freedom, his return to the Parisian love triangle is yet to be confirmed. Fans are left to wonder whether Gabriel will reclaim his spot in Emily's chaotic life or if Bravo will bid adieu to the City of Light.
