AceShowbiz - The highly-publicized feud between prominent hip-hop figures Lil Durk and Quando Rondo has taken a dark turn, culminating in legal charges against Lil Durk, whose real name is Durk Devontay Banks. According to the Broward County Sheriff's Office, the 32-year-old rapper was arrested on Thursday night, October 24 and is currently being held without bond at Broward County Jail in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
This arrest came just hours after five men believed to be affiliated with Durk's hip-hop collective, Only the Family (OTF), were indicted on federal charges in Los Angeles. These charges involve the same plot to murder Quando Rondo, whose real name is Tyquian Terrel Bowman.
The accusations are severe, including conspiracy to commit murder-for-hire, committing murder-for-hire resulting in death, and the use of firearms in a crime of violence.
The backdrop to these charges traces back to the fatal shooting of King Von, a close associate of Lil Durk, by an affiliate of Rondo named Lul Timm in 2020. Prosecutors claim that the five men, identified as Kavon London Grant, Deandre Dontrell Wilson, Keith Jones, David Brian Lindsey, and Asa Houston, devised a plan to avenge Von's death in August 2022.
Allegedly utilizing a credit card linked to OTF, the group purchased plane tickets to Los Angeles with the intent to eliminate Rondo. Upon arrival, Grant is said to have secured accommodations and firearms while also renting vehicles to track down Rondo and his cousin, Saviay'a Robinson.
According to the indictment, the men managed to follow their targets to a gas station. As Rondo and Robinson stopped for gas, Houston allegedly stationed himself in a nearby alley, enabling Jones, Lindsey, and a third unidentified accomplice to open fire. Rondo emerged from the attack unscathed, but unfortunately, his cousin Robinson was killed, sparking further outrage and media attention.
It's reported that following the shooting, the conspirators reconvened at a restaurant to discuss payment before using the same credit card to book their return flights to Chicago.
Though Lil Durk was not named as a defendant in the indictment against the five men, his arrest signifies a significant development. Durk, who has previously denied allegations that OTF is a gang, has faced similar charges before. In 2019, he was charged with criminal attempt to commit murder and other firearm-related offenses connected to a shooting in February that year.
This latest charge adds another layer to the complex, and often dangerous, world of rivalries within the hip-hop industry.
