AceShowbiz - This past weekend on "Saturday Night Live", Michael Keaton made his much-anticipated return to Studio 8H, marking his fourth time as the show's host. The event was particularly special as it tied in with the 50th season of the iconic comedy show. Keaton, known for his role as the mischievous ghost in "Beetlejuice", was met with a barrage of Beetlejuice nostalgia that had the audience roaring with laughter.
During his opening monologue, Keaton briefly reminisced about his early career days, sharing a humorous anecdote about working as a production assistant on "Mister Rogers' Neighborhood". "And in the '70s, you know, 'SNL' and 'Mister Rogers' have a lot more similarities than you would think. Lots of puppets. Tons of cocaine," he jested, while also praising Fred Rogers as "everything you'd think he was."
The monologue quickly transitioned to a focus on his recent reprisal of his 1988 role in the new sequel, "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice".
With Halloween right around the corner, Keaton joked about seeing many kids dressed as Beetlejuice, calling it "adorable," before humorously noting that seeing grown men in the same costume, "usually guys in their 40s," is "less adorable."
This set the stage for cast member Mikey Day to join Keaton on stage, donning the familiar green hair and black-and-white pinstriped suit of Beetlejuice. Day enthusiastically urged Keaton to say the character's famous catchphrase, "It's showtime," to which Keaton coyly responded, "To be honest, I don't even remember how I said it."
The scene grew even more chaotic when Andy Samberg appeared, also clad in full Beetlejuice regalia. Samberg, who effortlessly slipped into character, explained his presence with a nod to his SNL roots and his love for Beetlejuice, jokingly pleading Keaton not to refer to the character as "BJ." As if orchestrated, the camera panned to Sarah Sherman in the audience, who amusingly declared, "Oh no, this is just how I dress," while wearing a black-and-white striped outfit.
Keaton playfully pointed out the nostalgia sweeping the stage, asking if any of the cast had seen the sequel. The chorus of "not yet" and "it's on the list" added to the comedic moment. Finally, relenting to the excitement, Keaton channeled his Beetlejuice voice to electrify the audience, declaring, "We've got a great show for you tonight!" The monologue ended with a shoutout to the night's musical guest, Billie Eilish.
The return of Michael Keaton to "SNL" was a delightful homage to his celebrated career and his iconic role as Beetlejuice, with the show's cast perfectly capturing the spirit and fun of the legendary character.
