AceShowbiz - Zayn Malik, who recently announced his first-ever solo tour, "Stairway to the Sky," shared through his Instagram story on Saturday, October 19 that he would be rescheduling his U.S. tour dates to January following the untimely death of his former One Direction bandmate, Liam Payne.
The tour, initially slated to kick off on October 23 in San Francisco, was set to include stops in major cities such as Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Washington D.C., and New York City. "Given the heartbreaking loss experienced this week, I've made the decision to postpone the U.S. leg of the Stairway to the Sky Tour," Malik wrote, adding that tickets would remain valid for the new dates. "Love you all and thank you for your understanding," he concluded.
Payne died on October 16 at the age of 31 after a tragic fall from a third-story hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Local officials confirmed that Payne suffered multiple trauma wounds and internal and external hemorrhages, which led to his immediate death despite the efforts of emergency responders.
In a moving tribute, Malik expressed his grief on Instagram, "I never got to thank you for supporting me through some of the most difficult times in my life. When I was missing home as a 17 yr old kid you would always be there with a positive outlook and reassuring smile and let me know you were my friend and that I was loved." He continued, "I hope that wherever you are right now you are good and are at peace."
Payne was remembered fondly by Malik and their former One Direction bandmates Harry Styles, Niall Horan, and Louis Tomlinson, who issued a joint statement, "We're completely devastated by the news of Liam's passing. In time, and when everyone is able to, there will be more to say. But for now, we will take some time to grieve and process the loss of our brother, who we loved dearly."
Zayn Malik's decision to postpone his tour highlights the deep bond that the One Direction members share, despite their careers taking different paths over the years. Their formation on "The X Factor" in 2010 and subsequent rise to global fame underscored a brotherhood that transcended their professional collaboration.
Malik's fourth solo album, "Room Under the Stairs," released in May, will be the primary focus of his rescheduled tour. Produced by AEG and SJM, the tour will include 11 dates across the U.K. and U.S., with new dates to be announced soon.
Zayn Malik ends his announcement with a heartfelt message to his fans, "Appreciate your patience, love, and support. Can't wait to enjoy great music together."
