AceShowbiz - Jared Leto has found himself in hot water over his offensive remarks on an ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia. The frontman of rock band 30 Seconds to Mars was highly criticized for making an insulting comment on the war between the two countries.
On Thursday, October 17, the 52-year-old singer/actor received backlash from social media users. Taking to Instagram, one in particular slammed the musician, "Shame for supporting russia." Similarly, another chimed in, "This man called the war in Ukraine a 'problem' when Russia throws missiles at Ukrainians every day."
A third, in the meantime, appeared to have voiced their regret for attending one of the 30 Seconds to Mars shows recently. The user penned, "I was at the concert in Krakow and now I truly regret it! You didn't dare to say anything about missing moscow back there."
The criticisms came days after Jared sparked controversy with his statement about the Ukraine-Russia war. On October 11, he and his bandmates entertained their fans and took the stage in Belgrade, Serbia. At one point, he took time to speak with concertgoers.
Jared asked if there were any fans from Serbia and Russia, prompting the concertgoers to scream out loud. He then asked, "Did you miss us? Alright. I know we get people from all over the world tonight. It's just I thought I felt a little Russian energy out here tonight." His statement led some fans to laugh and cheer.
Not stopping there, Jared, as revealed by Daily Mail, said that he wants to "party" in Russia and Ukraine once "all these problems are finished." He stated, "We missed you guys, you know that. I tell you what, one day, when all these problems are finished, we're gonna come visit you in your homeland."
"We're going to come back to Serbia," he continued. "We're gonna go up to St. Petersburg, over to Moscow, we're going to drop down to Kyiv, we're going to party and hang out with everybody, okay...the way it should be."
Upon learning of the remarks, Ukraine's Ministry of Foreign Affairs called out Jared, stating, "Jared Leto's 'feeling the Russian energy' and his wish to perform in Russia is an insult to those sacrificing lives to defend freedom."
"The so-called 'Russian energy' has a clear definition: destroyed homes, shattered lives, tortured, raped, and murdered civilians, prisoners of war executed in violation of international law, killed animals, and wiped-off cities," they added. "There can be no appeasement for Russia when it continues its attempts to solve [the] 'problem' of Ukraine's very existence."
