AceShowbiz - In his recently released memoir, "Sonny Boy", renowned actor Al Pacino, now 84 years old, reveals a harrowing childhood accident that left an enduring emotional scar.
As a ten-year-old boy living in New York's South Bronx, Pacino was walking on a rain-slicked, thin iron fence when he slipped and fell, the iron bar striking him directly between his legs. He recalls the intense pain immobilizing him, unable to return home alone. Fortunately, an older man found him groaning in distress and carried him to his aunt's apartment.
While awaiting medical attention, Pacino lay on the bed with his pants down as his mother, aunt, and grandmother examined his injury with growing concern. He feared for his life and prayed for death to end his agony. To his relief, his anatomy remained intact, but the trauma persisted. Pacino remains "haunted" by the incident to this day.
In "Sonny Boy", Pacino also recounts his mother's accidental drug overdose in 1962 and the loss of his grandfather and father figure a year later, which he describes as the "darkest period" of his life. Despite his childhood misfortunes, Pacino went on to achieve great success as an actor, winning multiple Oscars.
