AceShowbiz - Netflix has announced the cancellation of its comedy series "Unstable" after two seasons. The workplace comedy, which premiered in March 2023 and released its second season on August 1, 2024, starred Rob Lowe as Ellis Dragon, the CEO and founder of a biotechnology company, and his estranged son Jackson, played by John Owen Lowe.
Despite leaning into the meta aspect of the real-life father and son playing similar characters on the show, "Unstable" struggled to gain traction on Netflix. According to Deadline, the second season failed to break into the streamer's Top 10, the most popular pieces of content, when it debuted.
The show's performance also fell short in Nielsen's streaming rankings and Netflix's internal rankings, determined by total viewing hours. The first season only made one appearance in Netflix's rankings and two in Nielsen's charts.
"Unstable" was co-created by Rob and John Owen Lowe, with Victor Fresco serving as showrunner for the first season. Andrew Gurland took over as showrunner for season two, with Rob and John Owen Lowe and Sean Clements executive producing.
The cast also included Sian Clifford, Aaron Branch, Rachel Marsh, Emma Pilar Ferreira, Fred Armisen, Tom Allen, JT Parr, Lamorne Morris and Iris Apatow.
The cancellation of "Unstable" marks the end of Rob Lowe's collaboration with both Netflix and his son. Lowe currently hosts the game show "The Floor" on Fox and stars in the fifth and final season of "911: Lone Star".'
