AceShowbiz - In recognition of World Mental Health Day, Flavor Flav, the 65-year-old hip-hop icon, has joined forces with the Sonia AI therapy app to provide free therapy to his fans. This initiative aims to prioritize mental well-being and offer accessible resources.
Flav, who is approaching four years of sobriety, has emphasized the integral role mental health has played in his recovery. "My mental health is an important part of my sobriety journey," he wrote on Instagram. "I talk to two therapists because I have a crazy schedule and travel."
Through the Sonia app, Flav intends to extend these benefits to his fans. Sonia, created by MIT AI researchers, offers voice-based therapy sessions on demand. "This is something special that can help so many people," Flav stated. "I reached out to the Sonia team to cover the cost of subscriptions for anyone who signs up today."
Flav's personal experience with addiction further underscores the importance of mental health awareness. At the height of his drug abuse, he revealed he spent staggering amounts on substances. "I was spending $2,600 a day for six years," he confessed. Despite his struggles, Flav remained unwavering in his determination to overcome addiction.
He credits God for his recovery, stating, "God wanted me to live because He knew I was a mouthpiece for the world." Flav's journey serves as an inspiration to others facing mental health challenges. "I can teach people about the mistakes I made."
On October 10th, subscriptions to the Sonia AI therapy app will be free. Fans can download the app from the App Store. Sonia founder Chris Aeberli has also launched a TikTok contest, offering a personalized mental health care package worth $1,000 to one lucky follower.
