AceShowbiz - Charlotte "Bowie" Drozd, daughter of The Flaming Lips' instrumentalist Steven Drozd, has been found safe and sound after going missing over the weekend. The 16-year-old was last seen on Saturday, October 5, at around 11:30 a.m., near the Space Needle and Seattle Monorail in downtown Seattle.
The Seattle Police Department (SPD) had classified Charlotte as a missing or runaway juvenile and assigned a detective from the Missing Persons Unit to investigate her disappearance. The police promptly issued a missing person alert and shared her description on social media: approximately 5 feet, 7 inches tall, weighing around 130 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes, last seen wearing khaki shorts and pink shoes.
The urgent call for help quickly gained traction, with Charlotte's father, Steven Drozd, and The Flaming Lips' frontman, Wayne Coyne, leading the charge.
Coyne took to Instagram, posting, "URGENT!!! Please help if you can !!! Steven's daughter ( she is 16 years old ) is missing !!! She was last seen at the Space Needle early on Saturday….I'll post more info as soon as I can." Coyne's post included several hashtags such as "#BringBowieHome" and "#MissingPersonSeattle," urging fans to assist in the search.
Friends, family, bandmates, and even rock icon Weezer shared the missing person poster on various social media platforms. The collective effort paid off when, on Tuesday, October 8, Coyne shared the much-awaited good news, "Yessssss… She's found and is safe.. her mother has spoke with her.. THANK YOU everyone for all your posts and all your networking and all your support and all your skills and all your trust and all your LOVE !!!"
The relief was palpable among the band's community and fanbase, who had been following the updates closely over the tense weekend. Coyne's Instagram post was an outpouring of gratitude accompanied by a picture of Charlotte's missing person poster with the word "Found" written across it.
While the exact details of where Charlotte was found and the circumstances surrounding her disappearance remain undisclosed, the focus among her family and the band has shifted to gratitude and relief.
This recent ordeal comes as The Flaming Lips also mourn the death of 17-year-old Canadian singer Nell Smith, a collaborator on their 2021 cover album, "Where the Viaduct Looms," who tragically passed away in a car accident.
The weekend was undoubtedly challenging for Steven Drozd and his bandmates, grappling with the fears for Charlotte's safety alongside the grief for Nell Smith. Charlotte's safe return, however, brought a moment of much-needed relief amid trying times.
