AceShowbiz - On the most recent episode of "Saturday Night Live," the "Weekend Update" segment turned its comedic spotlight on a diverse array of public figures, spanning from politicians to Hollywood celebrities and business magnates. With hosts Colin Jost and Michael Che at the helm, the segment offered sharp commentary and laughs at the expense of several high-profile names.
The episode opened by addressing former President Donald Trump's rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, where Jost remarked on Trump's "brave" appearance following an assassination attempt earlier in the year. The segment jestingly noted Trump's decision to send his running mate JD Vance on stage before him, quipping, "It was interesting that right before Trump spoke, he sent JD Vance out in a long, red tie and a blond wig."
Elon Musk also made an appearance at Trump's rally, which Jost humorously suggested might be their last public appearance together "until they co-host our Christmas show." This lighthearted comment alluded to both figures' past appearances on "SNL" -- Trump in 2004 and 2015, and Musk in 2021.
Turning to political commentary, Che addressed a cryptic social media post from far-right lawmaker Marjorie Taylor Greene, who mentioned the possibility of weather control in the wake of Hurricane Helene. Che joked, 'And I don't know who 'they' is, but it has been a suspiciously nice Rosh Hashanah weekend."
Another political figure who came under the comedic microscope was President Joe Biden. Commenting on Biden's visit to the White House press briefing room, Jost quipped, "It's not a great sign when you're at the White House and people are like, 'Woah, what's the president doing here?' "
Hollywood wasn't spared either. Che took aim at rapper Sean "P. Diddy" Combs, joking about the numerous accusations of sex trafficking and sexual assault against him. "It was reported that the U.S. added 245,000 new jobs. Unfortunately, they were all 'Diddy accuser,' " quipped Che.
Jost pointed out the connection between Diddy and the British royal family, humorously stating, "It was reported that Diddy once invited Prince Harry and Prince William to one of his parties, but they did not go," and added that "Before Diddy could finish writing the invite, Prince Andrew was there."
The segment also celebrated Daniel Day-Lewis' return to acting, with Jost jesting that the Oscar winner will star in "Shrek 6," when in reality, Day-Lewis will feature in his son Ronan's directorial debut, "Anemone."
Finally, Che took a swipe at billionaire Richard Branson's latest philanthropic venture, reporting, "Richard Branson has launched a new free online university for people with dyslexia. You can check it out at ww.wDyslexiacom." The comedian's exaggerated website name played on common stereotypes about dyslexia.
This episode of "SNL" was hosted by comedian Nate Bargatze with Coldplay as the musical guest, promising a blend of humor and great music. "Weekend Update" continues to deliver its hallmark wit, keeping audiences entertained and informed.
