AceShowbiz - The latest "Saturday Night Live" (SNL) episode offered a delightful mixture of soulful music and hilarious skits. Serving as the musical guest for the night, Coldplay graced the "SNL" stage with performances of two tracks from their tenth studio album, "Moon Music".
The band captivated audiences with "All My Love" and "We Pray," both of which showcased the album's "musically spacious and emotionally boundless" nature, as Rolling Stone put it. The album, released on Friday, October 4, is part of Coldplay's ambitious "Music of the Spheres" project, which aims to blend astronomical themes with their signature sound.
In a standout moment, Coldplay's rendition of "We Pray" was elevated with special appearances by Elyanna and Tini, who feature on the track. The song has multiple versions, including one performed at Glastonbury this past summer.
This week also saw Coldplay create a memorable experience for fans with a global listening event held in over 700 theaters across 40 countries. The band is set to continue its journey with sold out concerts in Australia, New Zealand, the Middle East, and Asia.
While Coldplay brought the music, The Lonely Island trio - comprising Andy Samberg, Jorma Taccone, and Akiva Schaffer - delivered the humor. Debuting "Sushi Glory Hole," their first song of "SNL" 50th season, the skit provided a fictional yet hilarious take on an app that directs you to mysterious sushi spots in bathroom stalls around New York.
Introduced by Maya Rudolph portraying Kamala Harris, the digital short hilariously imagines "getting a snack" instead of something else through the glory hole in a bathroom.
Dressed as 1980s businessmen, The Lonely Island members, along with Bowen Yang, hilariously rapped about the eccentric app. The skit included suggestive lyrics and imagery of sushi slices appearing through holes in bathroom walls.
Their amusing refrain of "Hear us out, hear us out, hear us out" emphasized the absurdity of the concept. The trio detailed scenarios where "SGH" could be the ideal food choice - such as nightclubs - boasting that it offers "shockingly high-grade fish."
Guest host Nate Bargatze rounded out the evening with his stand-up comedy, leaving viewers with a well-balanced mix of music and humor.
