In a series of interviews, the 40-year-old actor humorously shared his struggles with gaining 25 pounds during Bridges' pregnancy and the subsequent efforts to lose the extra weight.
"Her mental bounce-back was super fast for her, and her physical bounce-back was so annoying!" Devine quipped. "She was pregnant, and meanwhile, I was just eating everything with her and gained, like, 25 pounds. I was just a fat pig. I was just a little garbage can of a person. Just a garbage disposal. I was so gross."
Devine admitted to feeling a bit ashamed of his physical transformation, even resorting to growing a beard to "cover [his] neck fat." While Bridges, 32, returned to her pre-pregnancy self in a matter of weeks without working out, Devine found himself hitting the gym six days a week to shed his self-described "walrus" appearance. "She looked like herself, and it was so annoying. And [she] didn't work out!"
Despite the weight gain, Devine is thriving in his new role as a father. "It's great! We love it. I'm honestly just having a blast," he gushed. "I feel like I'm coming into my own as a dad. I feel like I was born to be [a dad]. I've always sort of looked like a dad. I've always given dad vibes…So now I've fully become myself."
Devine also touched on the timing of starting a family, revealing that he and Bridges, who got married in October 2021 after six years together, "waited" to have children because "everyone" around them "tried to scare [them] out of" parenthood.
While managing the demands of parenthood and a busy career, Devine has high praise for Bridges. He credits her for handling much of the child-rearing while he focuses on work.
