AceShowbiz - D.L. Hughley has blasted Janet Jackson over her comments on Kamala Harris. Not mincing his word, the actor attacked the singer's appearance after she questioned the vice president's blackness in a recent interview.
"#JanetJacksons interview sounded like a #Trump rally!" Hughley wrote on his account on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Sunday, September 22. "FYI!! It's a little ironic to question whether someone is black while you're breathing through the nose of a white woman!"
Further dragging Jackson over her supposed plastic surgery, the comedian added in a separate tweet, "#KamalaHarris looks the way she does cuz she has mom from India and a dad from Jamaica! #JanetJackson looks the way she does cuz she has a plastic surgeon."
The 61-year-old continued to defend Harris as saying, "All I know is #Kamala looks like she did when she as in Oakland! But Janet don't look like she did when she was Penny! What the hell was in that iron?"
Hughley slammed Jackson following her interview which was published by The Guardian on Saturday. In the interview, she weighed in on Harris' racial identity. "Well, you know what they supposedly said?" she said. "She's not black. That's what I heard. That she's Indian."
When the interviewer corrected the 58-year-old singer, "Well, she's both," she falsely insisted, "Her father's white. That's what I was told. I mean, I haven't watched the news in a few days." She added, "I was told that they discovered her father was white."
Following the controversy over Jackson's statements, Mo Elmasri, who presented himself as Jackson's manager, issued an apology via Variety. The statement read, "Janet Jackson would like to clarify her recent comments. She recognizes that her statements regarding Vice President Kamala Harris' racial identity were based on misinformation."
"Janet respects Harris' dual heritage as both Black and Indian and apologizes for any confusion caused. She values the diversity Harris represents and understands the importance of celebrating that in today's society. Janet remains committed to promoting unity and understanding," it continued to read.
However, the apology was quickly dismissed as being unauthorized. Representatives for Michael Jackson's sister said that the singer has been managed by her brother Randy Jackson (II) for many years.
Elmasri later told the Daily Beast that he was fired by the "Together Again" singer and her brother Randy Jackson due to disagreements after The Guardian published the article. "Janet Jackson fired me due to disagreements between me, her, and Randy, after her meeting with the Guardian and her unbalanced statements," he said in an emailed statement on Sunday.
