AceShowbiz - Janet Jackson's former representative allegedly lost his job amid the backlash over the singer's controversial comment about Kamala Harris. The man, who claims to be the R&B artist's former manager, claims he was fired by Janet and her brother Randy Jackson (II) due to disagreements after The Guardian published an article in which she claimed the vice president is "not black."
"Janet Jackson fired me due to disagreements between me, her, and Randy, after her meeting with the Guardian and her unbalanced statements," Mo Elmasri told the Daily Beast in an emailed statement on Sunday, September 22.
"That's all I can say," he added. When asked for further comment, he said he could not "receive phone calls due to the large number of calls," while adding, "All support to Kamala Harris."
Janet came under fire after her interview with The Guardian was published on Saturday. In the interview, she weighed in on Harris' racial identity. "Well, you know what they supposedly said?" she said. "She's not black. That's what I heard. That she's Indian."
When the interviewer corrected the 58-year-old singer, "Well, she's both," she falsely insisted, "Her father's white. That's what I was told. I mean, I haven't watched the news in a few days." She added, "I was told that they discovered her father was white."
Janet echoed MAGA talking points that have already been debunked when Donald Trump questioned her ethnicity. "I didn't know she was black until a number of years ago when she happened to turn black and now she wants to be known as black," he said at the National Association of Black Journalists convention in Chicago back in July.
Kamala's father is a Jamaican economist and her mother is Indian, making her both the first African American and Asian American vice president.
Following the controversy over Janet's statements, Mo, who presented himself as Janet's manager, issued an apology via Variety. The statement read, "Janet Jackson would like to clarify her recent comments. She recognizes that her statements regarding Vice President Kamala Harris' racial identity were based on misinformation."
"Janet respects Harris' dual heritage as both Black and Indian and apologizes for any confusion caused. She values the diversity Harris represents and understands the importance of celebrating that in today's society. Janet remains committed to promoting unity and understanding," it continued to read.
However, the apology was quickly dismissed as being unauthorized. Representatives for Michael Jackson's sister said that the singer has been managed by her brother Randy for many years.
