AceShowbiz - After a lengthy legal battle, Mama June a.k.a. June Shannon has obtained full custody of her granddaughter Kaitlyn, the daughter of her late daughter Anna Cardwell a.k.a. Chickadee and her former son-in-law Michael Cardwell.

According to court documents obtained by PEOPLE, a Georgia judge awarded Shannon custody of Kaitlyn on September 20. The judge cited Kaitlyn's fear of being taken away from Shannon and her desire to stay with her grandmother.

Michael Cardwell had initially filed for custody of Kaitlyn and her half-sister Kylee in December 2023, following Anna's death from adrenal carcinoma. However, Shannon filed a counterclaim, alleging that Michael had been abusive to Anna during their marriage.

Michael's attorney denied the abuse claims, stating that Michael and Anna had a positive relationship. Shannon had previously expressed concerns about Kylee and Kaitlyn being separated and believed that Kaitlyn would be better off with her due to the stability she could provide.

The judge ultimately ruled in Shannon's favor, emphasizing that Kaitlyn's well-being was paramount. The court documents also noted that a family therapist had testified that Kaitlyn feared being removed from Shannon's custody.

"Legal and physical custody of the minor child is to remain with the Defendant [Shannon] and Plaintiff [Michael] will have no right to visitation as such, unless otherwise expressly agreed to by the parties and the minor child," the judge wrote.

Shannon has long stated her desire to have custody of Kaitlyn, even before Anna's passing. She has expressed her commitment to providing a loving and stable home for her granddaughter.
