AceShowbiz - Selena Gomez doesn't let critics dictate what she should be speaking about publicly. The singer/actress has defended herself after being accused of having a "victim complex" because she has been open about her health issues.
"I truly believe that there is power in being vulnerable and telling people when you need help or when you want help. That is not shameful," she said in a video from an event she attended. "So yeah I shared that I can't carry a child, yeah I shared that I have bipolar. F**k off!"
Stating that she aims to empower other women by sharing her own story, the 32-year continued, "And I only want to be an advocate for women and that's why I share. That's why I like to be honest. Because everybody's going through something. I don't have it all put together. I'm not a...you know, whatever. I'm me, and that's all I can be."
"So do not ever let anyone tell you that you are not a good person, that you are kind, that you don't treat people with respect," she told those who were also present at the event. "Because that's not like that is so cool for you guys. And that is the fact. So, screw anyone who tells you you're a victim. You're a survivor anyway."
Selena defended her decision to be honest about her real life issues after she revealed that she's unable to carry her own child. Speaking to Vanity Fair for its October issue, she shared, "I haven't ever said this, but I unfortunately can't carry my own children. I have a lot of medical issues that would put my life and the baby's in jeopardy. That was something I had to grieve for a while."
Despite this personal challenge, the star, who has been dating Benny Blanco, has found hope and solace in other paths to motherhood. "I find it a blessing that there are wonderful people willing to do surrogacy or adoption, which are both huge possibilities for me," she said, adding, "It made me really thankful for the other outlets for people who are dying to be moms. I'm one of those people."
