AceShowbiz - Recent revelations have placed "The Golden Bachelorette" contestant Gil Ramirez in a harsh spotlight. Court documents revealed that Ramirez's ex-girlfriend filed a temporary restraining order against him, citing harassment and emotional distress earlier this year.
The court documents detailed the ex-girlfriend's claims of repeated unwanted contact. "Despite telling him to not contact me, come to my house - he made repeated unwanted contact with me, family members and friends," she alleged in the request for the restraining order.
"25 attempts daily via phone, texts, video. Although lives an hour away - showed up at places I frequent to confront me on a daily basis," she detailed in the document. The woman noted at the time that the alleged harassment had been going on for a "two week period thus far."
The restraining order was granted temporarily, but subsequent attempts to serve it to Ramirez failed. This led to the eventual dismissal of the case on July 24 for lack of prosecution. The controversy has prompted the show to minimize Ramirez's screen time and promotional presence.
This follows a similar scandal involving Devin Strader, the winner of season 21 of "The Bachelorette", who faced accusations of breaking into his ex-girlfriend's home and violating restraining orders. Strader defended himself, stating that the accusations were false and stemmed from misunderstandings during a difficult time in his life.
The contestants' past legal woes have brought question to the franchise's procedure to cast them. On Ramirez's case, a source close to the show tells PEOPLE that "this filing occurred in the brief period between completion of our thorough background investigation and exhaustive vetting process, and the beginning of production."
The insider added that due to the information coming out, the show has "further edited his already limited screen time and minimized him in promotional assets moving forward."
